The Phoenix Union Community Celebrates As Voters Overwhelmingly Vote in Favor of the District’s M&O and DAA Overrides

(PHOENIX, AZ) The Yes for Phoenix Union campaign is proud to announce the successful passage of both the Maintenance & Operations (M&O) Override continuation and the District Additional Assistance (DAA) Override increase for the Phoenix Union High School District. Voters overwhelmingly supported both measures that will sustain essential classroom programs, maintain robust student support services, and provide much-needed resources to protect high-quality learning environments for Phoenix’s high schoolers.
The approved M&O Override will provide nearly $32 million each year for the next seven years to increase academic opportunities for students after earning over 65% yes votes in November. The DAA Override earned over 63% yes votes and will provide $21 million per year to provide our students with the tools and resources needed to succeed.
“We could not do this without our volunteers who sacrificed weeknights and weekends to hang signs, knock on doors, and help educate our community on these essential education dollars,” said Jared Reynolds, Yes For Phoenix Union PAC Member. “Our Phoenix Union’s voters showed up and left no doubt that our community supports our local public schools - thank you, voters!”
Parents, educators, alumni, community leaders, and local partners united with one voice to show their support for the Yes for Phoenix Union campaign. The successful passage of both initiatives provides stability for the district in times when our local public schools and public education as a whole are under attack.
With this approval, Phoenix Union High School will continue to focus on:
-
Providing students with high-quality educators in high-quality learning environments
-
Increasing access to mental health and wellness resources for students
-
Maintaining future-focused classroom technology, infrastructure, and learning tools
-
Access to learning experiences that prepare students for careers of the future
-
Providing safe and well-maintained facilities for students and staff
The Yes for Phoenix Union Campaign would like to thank the countless volunteers, supporters, and community members who worked so hard to get out the vote and make this victory possible.
